The Getting Ready portion of the wedding day is really how you make it! Do you want it small and private? Or do you want anyone and everyone to be there to enjoy the day with you? There’s no wrong answer! But this blog is all about how this part of the day looks from the photographer’s perspective. Now not all of this will fit your wedding day. I’ve had brides that didn’t care for me getting the details and I’ve had brides that chose not to do any first looks. It is completely up to you, but I did want to give you an idea of what a typical getting ready looks like from my point of view!

One of the biggest timeline decisions couples make is whether or not to do a first look. In fact, that is the second question I ask after ceremony time when I’m having my initial consultations! The moment itself is one thing to think about, but having a first look or not makes a very big difference when it comes to the timeline. It can affect how the day feels, how much time you have for portraits, when you attend cocktail hour, and what kind of photos you’ll end up with.

Wedding trends change fast! What feels modern and exciting today can sometimes feel dated much sooner than couples expect. When couples look back at their wedding photos years from now, what they usually want isn’t what was popular at the time but it’s photos that still feel honest, emotional, and true to thier personalities. After years of photographing weddings, I’ve become a bit of an expert in what makes images feel timeless versus what tends to age quickly. This post is about making intentional choices that will still feel right decades from now!

My first wedding of the year and it was absolutely perfect! Nothing like getting started off with an intimate microwedding in Rocky Mountain National Park on a beautiful spring day. And that is exactly what Cat and Sean got! These two came in from Dallas and we were prepared for any kind of weather in the weeks leading up to the wedding. Then of course we got the best weather of the year so far up in Estes. With a snowstorm happening the week before, we were still able to get snowcaps on the mountains which made the backdrop that much more stunning!

But after photographing hundreds of weddings, I’ve noticed sometimes the most meaningful moments don’t happen on the timeline. They happen in between. Unexpectedly and often when no one is watching. Many times these are the moments couples don’t realize will mean the most until they see their photos!

Not just “Oh that’s nice”—but the real joy, the laughter, the weird little looks you give each other, the belly laughs with your friends, and all the joyful chaos in between. Ah the wedding emergency kit.. the most important thing you hope you don’t need to use! But having one is absolutely vital for wedding day! One thing I always tell my brides to keep in mind is that wedding day more than likely won’t go absolutely perfect and sometimes you just need to roll with it. I mean this day is all about celebrating your love so always keep that at the forefront of your mind! But it always pays to be prepared and that’s where your emergency kit comes in. This is your peace of mind lifeboat if your day goes swimmingly and your savior if you do run into a little snag!

There are so many ways you can do this even if your pet can’t be there physically. This blog is here to give you ideas on how to get your pup (or even your cat!) involved in the fun! 2025 is officially in the books and what a great year it was!! It was filled with so many amazing couples, families, and beautiful wedding days, I cant believe it’s already over. I’ve officially hit five years living in Denver, Colorado and four years photographing weddings out here and it’s been such a great ride! I want to give a big thank you to every single one of my couples for trusting me with their big day and all my families that let me be a part of all of their milestone moments.

One question I get from my couples is how far out to do the engagement session if they want to send out a save the date. What a great finish to the season celebrating Dani and Eric’s wedding day! This wedding at Ashley Ridge had so many cool little details that they put together and helped create such a personal day for them. It’s been so much fun getting to know them over the course of the year and that really made it so comfortable when it came time for photos with these two! From the getting ready with so many amazing first looks to portraits out in the park including their pup Maverick to an emotional sunset ceremony, they really did have all they could have ever wanted for their perfect day.

Speaking as a photographer, I just have to say engagement sessions are such a valuable part of the wedding process and not only so you can have photos for your save the dates! An engagement session will more than likely be your first ever photo session together and that can really help out once the wedding day comes along. I cannot get over how beautiful Lily and Elie’s wedding was out here at the Denver Botanic Gardens! And in November too!! The weather was perfect and these two couldn’t have looked happier celebrating their big day with all of their friends and family. Congrats to these on an absolutely stunning wedding and an even more beautiful marriage!

The fall colors were still absolutely gorgeous for Lexi and Seth’s October wedding at the Manor House!! So so many stunning images inside and out of this beautiful venue. These two were such a great time and I loved how much their playful side came out through the whole day! Sometimes as a couple it’s hard to expect how you’ll be in front of the camera, but these two were complete naturals :)
